Brian
Fleming
Released from the psychology department of UCD in 1991 with
a BA, Brian has played extensively in Europe, America, Japan,
Korea, Cuba, Gambia, Senegal, Scandinavia, Singapore, Bangladesh
and Cork (twice). He has performed with groups such as Anuna,
Puck Fair, Whirligig, Faolan and Jack L. and is a founder
member of De jimbe.
He played
at the opening ceremony of the World Cup, Seoul 2002, at Expo
2000, Hannover and at Percussion festivals in Cuba and Korea.
He has taught in the music departments of the Irish universities
UCD, UCC and TCD as well as for many music schools, summer
schools, community groups, etc.
Brian features in the Guinness Book of World Records 2001
as one of the inventors of the Millennium Drum, the world's
biggest drum, created for the Millennium Drum Carnival stage
show, which he directed.
He has
also directed performers for many civic occasions such as
'The Parable of the Plums 2005', a celebration of the 100
year anniversary of Bloomsday, involving 170 performers; St
Patrick's Festival; Dublin and Queens, NY; Galway Arts Festival
and International games in Croke Park and Lansdowne Rd. He
has played music for theatre for the Abbey Theatre, the Catalan
theatre company Els Comedians, Macnas, Barabbas, the Dublin
Theatre festival, Down To Earth, Calypso and Donald O Kelly.
Brian has been on the telly a lot and in some films. He has
recorded on over 25 CDs as well as many film scores, etc..
